The said inamorata is a bright woman - neither could my wife stand me for a month in some tiny village.
I hope you realize that her "side trips to lovely islands" could be a very expensive way for you to enjoy your solitude - depending on what shops are on said islands!
As I started reading your premise the first place that popped to mind was Armenoi Crete. It is about 30 minutes around the bay from Chania. This is the place the tourist busses take you to show you a typical Greek village. The Kafinia is the central part of the village, smack in the middle of a cross roads. All happens here. Expats mingle with locals. You can NOT not become part of the village and community in less time than an introduction.
A trip like this sounds like my idea of heaven! I can't wait to hear how it turns out!
What a wonderful choice, Bryan! Kathleen and I spent a delayed honeymoon in Greece, mostly Crete. Magical.
And in my opinion, you are treating Walden correctly. It is not *only* about life in the woods. It is about life.

No doubt!

Thank you! I am not above a day trip!
