I will not choose between them. But for the sake of argument, if a gun were held to my head, I'd vote for the status quo, as I ALSO already know what I get from the other guy.
When I was in high school I found an article in the Seattle Times that had the (Rules for a communist revolution) not sure of the exact sentence. In these rules were all of the above as you stated for the liberation of. I also remember that these documents were recovered at the end of WW11 along with other Nazi documents. I brought it to school and the teacher had it posted in class (social studies) and we had a discussion about it, dont remember much of that but it was during the "sexual revolution" so I'm sure that was one topic for a bunch of high school kids! Just thought you might find that interesting!
Folks, happy to listen more, but I will not listen to or provide a platform for, ridiculous whattaboutism designed to gussy up a nob incited to violent overthrow. You have other places for that garbage.
I share your misgivings about the state of the country, for the same reasons as you. I confess I still don’t think Donald Trump will be president again, but I’m not as sure about that. Let’s hope that prediction doesn’t come true.
Do you think China will invade Taiwan in the next five years if not this year?
Bryan, as usual you are spot on about Traitor Trump. I left the Republican Party in 2016 because of the complete stupidity of that clown. Now I’m 2024 I’m going to re register as a Republican for the sole reason of voting against him. As a fiscal conservative and social moderate I have been picking candidates not based on party, but on what they say and verified when possible by their actions. We need presidential candidate that supports the Constitution and rule of law. Right now that only appears to be Chris Christy. Will be watching. Happy New Year and Best.
We need some really boring sounding constitutional amendments hat will start rebuilding national consensus. President/VP are the only national office election. Make it its own national election primary process and schedule. No more of this New Hampshire, Iowa yada yada yada. I'm open to solutions but amending the process is what needs to happen and neither party or any of their candidates offers it as a solution.
By Obama 2.0, I’m referring to the current administration. Trump was just as guilty. Not being what I would consider a true conservative, Trump wouldn’t hold the line. Both parties are equally responsible. If you are going to go big deficit, at least spend on frigates!
Thanks Bryan, I concur with most of your thoughts as presented. When Trump had no idea what the Triad is during the first debate of 2016 I almost fell off my chair. As Bolton and others have pointed out, Trump seems to have very little literacy on NatSec issues and no interest in changing. The Obama 2.0 crew’s feckless approach to a dangerous and complicated world, it’s policies of weakening us internally through climate jihad, massive debt, open borders, and divisive social issues don’t portend a happy prospect of National Security either.
I think that we are in trouble no matter, Trump or Dem.
On January 6th, the Constitution did prevail. I have been going on the Hill for over thirty years doing advocacy for small business (and sometimes the Navy League) and knowing the level of security that I’ve witnessed I couldn’t believe that the mob got as far as it did without deadly force being employed. I assume incompetence in not having the Guard or Metro PD available. I am not minimizing what occurred, but in the end the business of certifying the election got done. I don’t see these misguided morons as any different than climate or social justice rioters who just drank a different Kool Aid. At least, unlike Portland or Seattle, nothing was set on fire. Even though Federal law enforcement and property was attacked in the NW, the rioters were not tracked down and punished like the Jan 6th folks. The sundry charges against Trump have just solidified his lead in the R Primary; blocking his primary opponents from any consideration.
"I don’t see these misguided morons as any different than climate or social justice rioters who just drank a different Kool Aid"--you see, there you go making the point for me. "I am not minimizing what occurred"--that is exactly what you are doing by comparing people gathered to violently overturn an election to urban rioters. Both are disgusting in their own way, but only one group specifically tried (and failed--but we prosecute attempted crimes as well as successful crimes) to overturn an election.
I believe that our system is so strong that no matter what those jerks did, it would survive. Yeah, I see people fire bombing Federal buildings and severely injuring law enforcement as trying to overturn the system. On a large enough scale that is insurrection. Armed mobs in the street. Peaceful protest.
An interesting and thoughtful essay and a great read to begin the new year. I take issue with only one prediction, because I so earnestly hope Trump's flaws and consequent legal problems will catch up with him at last. More problematic is what will become of Trumpism, which has invaded the the souls of so many of my fellow Americans.
If the election becomes a choice between Trump and Biden, which candidate will you vote for? Do you want four more years of the status quo?
I will not choose between them. But for the sake of argument, if a gun were held to my head, I'd vote for the status quo, as I ALSO already know what I get from the other guy.

“excitable” in the second paragraph to my comment, obviously should be “execrable.” Voice dictation glitch and bad proofreading.
Go Browns!
I think Flacco is riding destiny.

Happy New Year, Sir! I too re-registered, for the same reason.

I guess the question I have for Bryan is, if Trump wins, what are the odds of CCP action in Taiwan in 2025?
The same as if Biden or anyone else wins. Low.
D’accord. Happy New Year my friend.

Happy New Year.......
Lots to agree with here, except the Obama massive debt.
The debt to GDP ratio went up roughly:
23.4% during Bush 2.
21.85% in Obama who balanced the budget rand reduced the ratio during the admins last budget year.
22.68% during Trump's 4 years which admittedly had Covid, but debt started back up right along with the first year tax cuts.
I think one of the greatest misnomers is you think those in the Northwest weren't the same people on January 6th. If you watch both in detail you will see some of the same people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_State_Capitol_breach#:~:text=A%20security%20video%20released%20in,expel%20him%20for%20his%20actions.
