We now live in a world where hyperboly is the order of the day. From my perspective, I would say it may not have been the LEFT that started the name calling - or maybe it was, but they certainly did elevate it to ridiculous levels with their exhaustive "Nazi" taunts.
And, Kelly really hasn't done anything to tamp down the rhetoric on his side. So I'll not lecture Elon on the use of the word "traitor" here.
I was working a job at Edward's AFB for the last two weeks. Edwards is located next to a sleepy little town known as Lancaster. On the way to the job site one day, a Tesla was ahead of me - probably about 50 yards ahead.
Suddenly, an IDIOT popped out into the road in front of me, waiving the bird and YELLING at the Tesla driver. The Tesla driver probably didn't even notice the bird, nor did he probably hear the man's shouted insults. Unless he was staring into his rear-view mirror - there's no way he say what this imbecile did.
This IDIOT was UNHINGED enough to jump out in front of my vehicle, and risk his life for an empty gesture.
What causes this kind of stupidity and hate? A hate so strong, you'd risk your life to express it even though the only guy who could possibly notice it is the guy driving a Chevy, who also voted PROUDLY FOR TRUMP (every day is like Christmas Morning to me!) ... and who has to make a decision concerning hitting the brakes to save the life of an unhinged idiot, or letting Darwinism take it's course and remove this little blight on the human gene pool.
On the whole, I'd consider Kelly to be a "moderate" democrat and a man of little talent (IMO). Still, he's probably more of the type of guy the Democratic party should be encouraging - but the Mark Kelly side of the party is LOSING to what THEY CALL ... "The Social Democrats" - like AOC and Bernie Sanders.
Personally, I'd like to see the Democratic civil war go on. I'd like to see guys like Mark Kelly shouting at Trump and Elon - because they are impotent shouts - wasted breath ... look at the numbers.
I'm rooting for the Social Democrats (the Anarcho-Marxist wing of the party, as I call it).
Means that Mark Kelly is wasting his breath against a target that he can't possibly harm (Trump).
While his flank remains ignored ... to the political peril of the "moderate" Dems.
I love Elon Musk! I do not own a Tesla and would NEVER buy an electric vehicle. It's unnecessary to support climate change - even the Democrats are admitting now that was all a scam. So many scams now ... coming to light. Covid came from the Lab ... the vaccines weren't "all that" ... and YES, the Democrats used taxpayer money as a slush fund for various and sundry supporters, like Stacey Abrams - or whatever her name is!
It looks like we'll have many companions in irons (rather than companions at arms) in the near future. I'm with you in wanting to see Russia LOSE and withdraw its forces from ALL of Ukraine, among other treacherous beliefs that you outlined. I'm glad to be in good company.
What is your recommended course of action for Ukrainian victory? Please be specific because I would really like to walk on the moon one day, but at 63, I fear there is no logical path for me to do that - unless a miracle suddenly develops. You can't plan your life (or the lives of others) around the hope for miracles.. I'll have to settle for disappointment, I guess - which is the reality based approach.
Ukraine was a province of Russia from 1775 until 1991. It is ludicrous to aver that their independence is in some way a prerequisite to American prosperity or security.
Also, birthright citizenship is a judicial fiction created by SCOTUS in an 1890s case. Don’t act like it is the 11th Commandment inscribed by God on the tablets of Moses.
This war has taught me one thing ... how similar the Ukrainians and Russians are. Both have a history of hot-bloodedness and corruption. Both are paranoid.
It's almost like Putin was right when he say they were the "same people".
Your understanding of Ukrainian history is somewhat lacking. Ukraine was never a "province." It was always a colony referred to as "Little Russia" and its people as "Little Russians." Even under the soviet version of the russian empire, it was treated as a republic, like Lithuania, Kazakhstan or Georgia. not a mere autonomous region like the dozens of other peoples that the Moscow tried to gobble up over the centuries.
Oh wow, the terminology for a region controlled by the dictatorial governments in Moscow was something other than “province.” What an amazing and fundamentally paradigm altering revelation this is. I now support giving another $373,736,976,402.67 to Ukraine and even sending nukes if need be. Thank you for opening my eyes to this completely relevant and perspective changing fact!
Having thought about the sink Tesla movement, I think a lot of people will tell you it's about virtue signaling. I say nay. The greater angle is something we all tend to overlook with respect to our smart phones and cars, and it's privacy. From there it's trust. Do you trust Elon Musk with a data vacuum node that you operate? Cameras, GPS, and microphones, all netted into your smart phone. We all laugh at those disclaimers for software largely because we assess the risk, and trust Google and Apple just enough. So if your trust Elon doesn't have a back door to Grok for your data, or some other diabolical use, then go ahead and get your Tesla on. I think a Lucid is well, a lucid choice for not having to worry about a ketomine fueled narcissist, emotionally absent progenitor, who changes his loyalties and values on a dime, having access to your whole life.
On a final note I would say that after 24 years wearing the cloth on active duty, and another 12 years teaching students in our local NJROTC program, still wearing the cloth, that what we, as leaders instilled
in students was that the world is so much bigger than than this Title I school. Short story, we traveled to military bases in Washington State to give them a first hand view of what the military was like. I had a young man that had never been out of town. As we crossed the Columbia River he asked “what is that river”. I told him and he broke down in tears. He was recently selected to E-8 in the world’s finest Marine Corps. Your leadership had an impact, and mine on his. Keep up the good fight!
Hey Bryan, Jerry Hollis here in Oregon. I hope this response finds you well.
I firmly support your views, and find it a travesty that as the most powerful nation on earth, we are currently facing this sort of ignorance in our country.
If you don’t mind I would like to share your thoughts with colleagues of mine here in the local area. They will be published giving full credit to you. If not I totally understand.
Thank you for addressing your readers so eloquently.
I think if you look, China's BYD is now the largest manufacturer of electric vehicle. I appreciate your list. That should in normal times by considered a solid list of "common ground."
I decided long ago that I was never buying anything that Musk built; he clearly regards the human race as unpaid beta testers for his products. There have always been good alternatives, and there are lots of good EVs on the market. All of which you can get out of without electrical power in case of an emergency.
Could not have said it better. That Trump is a violator of his oath to the constitution is not an opinion. We all saw it. Senator (CAPT) Mark Kelly is a true patriot and our support for the people of Ukraine is on the right side of supporting freedom and democracy. This Administration's embracing our clear enemy Russia can only be expected when the country is led by a clear traitor and convicted felon. As a life long fiscal conservative and social moderate, I will never vote for a traitor to my country. One note on "Entitlements," I agree we need to responsibly reform retirement eligibility requirements. Given life expectancy, allowing someone to start drawing social security at 62 (while there is a penalty) and 67 for full time benefits needs to be reviewed and probably extended to closer to 70. That said, the word entitlements is a bit of a misnomer. I paid into the Social Security Trust Fund for over 50 years and continue to pay in in my part time job at 72. It is an earned retirement stipend. Don't confuse it.
I raised my right hand on six occasions and swore the Oath of Enlistment. Had the Oath-Breaker been in office when I was up for reenlistment, I would not have done so. Better to step into the honorable state of civilian service than to subject myself to dishonor against the U.S. Constitution.
My family drives Toyotas, because they are well built and reliable cars.Nothing political about it. I tend to agree that Ukraine is deserving of our support, but being a naval person am unable to parse just what would be most effective in a land locked and very geopolitical conflict. I do not understand why suddenly the most successful African-American in the US is some sort of monster deserving of obloquy from all sides. He's an interesting and obviously brilliant human being. Do I agree with all things he supports? No. So what? Seems to me it's time for everyone to take a deep breath and cease firing.

Firing away. Guess I’ll be a traitor as well.
Come for me I’m ready.

As you wish, my friend!
The real traitors are those who sell out their country’s interests in the name of realpolitik.
“This is all very unlikely to end well.”
You’re right. And you’re not a traitor, you’re just the other America. We both can’t win.
We both can’t live here.
For we are unlivable with each other. These things happen from time to time, since you wore the cloth as did I … you know what I mean.
Good luck.
Excellent post. I'll be right next to you standing against the wall.

I speak, of course, only for myself.

Bryan, like you with Senator Kelly, I agree with every word you wrote. Every. Word.
Bring on the shackles and handcuffs.
